Roasted Turkey Breast Recipe

Roasted Turkey Breast makes a great recipe for Thanksgiving dinner for two to four people. It is also really easy to make for any time when you’re craving home-cooked turkey. This Roasted Turkey Breast recipe is fantastic to enjoy warm or chill it to use for amazing sandwich deli meat.

This turkey breast comes out flavorful and moist thanks to the simple homemade brine that is made with water, salt, honey, and spices. Marinating the breast for 8 to 12 hours prior to roasting makes the lean turkey meat extremely moist and flavorful inside. So, don’t skip it! After the marinating time is done coat the breast with seasonings and whole-grain Dijon mustard and roast it in the oven.

How to Roast Turkey Breast Boneless and Keep it Moist

Roast turkey breasts in the oven on high heat for 25 – 30 minutes. Then cover the baking dish with foil, turn off the oven and let the turkey rest in the hot oven for at least 90 minutes and up to it is completely cooled. The longer it sits in the oven the juicier it will be. Then take the breast out of the oven and serve warm or chill it in the fridge for deli turkey breast (see the notes below how to serve it). This roasting method helps the breast keep its moisture and prevents it from overcooking and drying out.

How to Serve Roasted Turkey Breast

This Roasted Turkey Breast can be served warm for delicious dinner, but it also creates the perfect homemade deli meat made with natural ingredients.

For Turkey Breast Dinner

Slice the warm turkey breast against the grain into thick slices and serve with your favorite sides and gravy. Here are my favorite ideas that go well with Roasted Turkey Breast:

Healthy Mashed Potatoes

For Turkey Breast Deli Meat

Thinly slice the breast after it’s completely cooled in the oven and then chilled in the refrigerator. But no one forbid you to try it after you take it out from the oven! I often slice one part of the breast when it’s still warm to serve for dinner and the other part I leave unsliced to chill it for deli meat. Here are some delicious ways to enjoy deli turkey with:

      FAQs

Should turkey breast be covered or uncovered when roasting? ›

To achieve a perfectly golden, juicy turkey, let the bird spend time both covered and uncovered in the oven. We recommend covering your bird for most of the cooking time to prevent it from drying out; then, during the last 30 minutes or so of cooking, remove the cover so the skin crisps in the hot oven.

Does cooking a turkey breast down make it more moist? ›

Cooking a turkey upside down allows the juices to trickle down during the roasting process for extra moist and juicy breast meat. Plus, since the dark meat is closer to the heat source, it cooks faster than it does with the traditional method. It's a win-win!

What is the best temperature for moist turkey breast? ›

Salt and pepper lightly if desired. Roast at 300°-325°F until internal temperature reaches 170°F on an instant read thermometer. (I raise the temperature to 350° for the last approximate 30-45 minutes to crisp skin).

How does Martha Stewart cook a turkey in the oven? ›

Roast 1 hour, then baste every 30 minutes with pan liquids, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of thigh (avoiding bone) registers 125°F, about 3 hours. Remove foil; raise oven heat to 400°F. Continue roasting, basting occasionally, until thigh reaches 180°F, 45 to 60 minutes more.

How does Bobby Flay roast a turkey? ›

Put the turkey on top of the vegetables, put in the oven and roast in the oven for 45 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Reduce the heat to 350 and continue roasting, basting with the warm chicken stock every 15 minutes until basting with some of the chicken stock every 15 minutes, about 2 to 2 ¼ hours longer.

Do you rinse a turkey breast before roasting? ›

It doesn't matter if you're roasting, frying, or smoking your turkey, there's no need to give it a rinse unless you've brined it (more on that below). Cooking the turkey kills any bacteria, but washing a turkey before you cook it opens the door to dangerous cross contamination.

Is it better to cook a turkey at 325 or 350? ›

      Oven-Roasted Turkey

We recommend starting the turkey in a 425 degree oven for 30-45 minutes before tenting the pan with foil and lowering the temperature to 350 degrees until a meat thermometer reads 165 degrees when inserted into the thickest part of the bird.

Why cook turkey breast side down? ›

Breast Side Down. The main difference between how my mother makes her turkey and everyone else is to cook it breast side down. By cooking the turkey this way, the juices from the cooking turkey fall into the breast while the turkey cooks, resulting in the most succulent breast imaginable.

Why is my turkey breast always dry? ›

The problem: Cooking the turkey whole

Because dark meat has more connective tissues, it takes longer to break down, so if you cook the turkey whole, by time the legs and thighs are done, the breasts are overcooked and dry. The solution: Carve your turkey before you cook it.

What to season turkey with? ›

Stick with salt and pepper, put herbs like rosemary, thyme, and sage to work, or take spicy Cajun seasoning for a spin for some kick. Whatever blend you choose, spread it all over the turkey—on top, underneath, between the body and wings and legs, under the skin, and even in the cavity of the bird.

What temperature makes the juiciest turkey? ›

People have different opinions. Most recipes call for 350°F. I've done high heat turkeys (450°F to start, turn down to 400°F after 30 minutes). It's fast, and it creates a beautifully browned and juicy bird, as long as you watch the internal temperature.

How does Gordon Ramsay cook his turkey? ›

Roast the turkey in the hot oven for 10–15 minutes. Take the tray out of the oven, baste the bird with the pan juices and lay the bacon rashers over the breast to keep it moist. Baste again. Lower the setting to 180°C/Gas 4 and cook for about 2 1⁄2 hours (calculating at 30 minutes per kg), basting occasionally.

How do you keep a fully cooked turkey moist? ›

To keep the turkey moist, add a little broth or water and cover. Cover your food and rotate it for even heating.
