Why is Dark Souls 1 so hard? ›

Everything in the game has been painstakingly and deliberately implemented for good reason. It's all part of the plan. Once you can embrace that idea, Dark Souls becomes so much more than a conventional video game. It becomes a highly cerebral adventure that takes careful planning and execution to progress and survive.

This game certainly isn't a grindfest. It is if you want it to be a lot easier. But it IS possible to wander in to more advanced area's before you're supposed to, so look at items or talk to NPC's unless you sure that's where you're supposed to be.

When focusing on the main objectives, Dark Souls is about 42 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 105 Hours to obtain 100% completion.

If anything, DSIII is much harder, at least in the back half. The first game front-loads its difficulty, peaking with Ornstein & Smough at approximately the halfway point, and from there it's all downhill- none of the bosses in its latter half are anywhere near as challenging, at least once you figure out their tricks.

For a first-time player, that extra assistance will make a big difference, so whilst the game is unchanged in its original difficulty, playing the remastered version could still prove an easier prospect.

To achieve 100% in Dark Souls we will have to complete two full playthroughs & a half playthrough of the game all on the same character (NG++).
