Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Banana French Toast Casserole Recipe (2024)

Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Banana French Toast Casserole Recipe (1)

I love making casseroles. My dad and I were trying to come up with the most AWESOME breakfast “sweet” casserole and here it is

We have chocolate!

We have peanut butter

and we have banana!

And they all marry together in this casserole 🙂

I love that we decided to keep it simple – you might notice that we did not use syrup – feel free to use it and powdered sugar.

I did not want to go too crazy on the sugar

I also used Almond milk – feel free to use regular milk or soy milk ( same measurements apply)

Here is my dad setting up the dish for me to snap pictures 🙂 I love showing you guys behind the scene pictures — do you like them?

We really hope you try and make this recipe 🙂

Can you spy my owl towel ( love the dollar section at Target )

If you do try this recipe please leave a comment on what you thought – it helps other readers know if they should make it or not 🙂

Love You Guys!

FAQs

How do you keep French toast casserole from getting soggy? ›

It could be because of the bread you used. If the bread you start with is too soft (such as white sandwich bread), it won't absorb all of the wonderful custard that it should, and it might end up soggy. If you find yourself with a soggy casserole, for whatever reason, try baking it a bit longer until it firms up some.

When making French toast What is the ratio of eggs to milk? ›

Whatever you decide on, the ratio of liquid to egg will still be about ¼ cup liquid to one egg, and one egg per two slices of bread. So, if you want to make four slices of French toast, you would need four slices of bread, two eggs, and ½ cup milk.

Why add milk to eggs for French toast? ›

Eggs and milk are the essential components of the custard base that gives French toast its tender richness—but get their ratio off and you'll wind up with undercooked slices that have an unpleasantly savory "scrambled eggs" flavor.

What happens if you soak French toast too long? ›

The first is using fresh bread, which soaks up too much of the egg mixture and doesn't cook through, remaining eggy and soggy in the middle. Leaving the bread in the egg mixture for too long is another route to soggy French toast.

Should you soak bread for French toast? ›

Ideally it's best if you can soak the bread in the french toast batter overnight however, if this cannot be done I suggest leaving it soak for a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour. As we want that custard like middle, cut very thick slices of bread.

Does overnight French toast get soggy? ›

There are a few potential reasons why your overnight French toast may be soggy. One possible culprit is that you did not use dense enough bread, which allowed the custard mixture to soak in too much.

Why does my homemade French toast taste like eggs? ›

If the balance is off and you include too many eggs or not enough milk, the finished French toast will have a scrambled egg-like flavor. When scaling this recipe up or down, keep in mind that you need 1/4 cup of milk for every egg.

How much milk replaces 1 egg? ›

Using a 1/4 cup of milk or yogurt in place of eggs is perfect for baked goods where moisture is key, such as cakes or muffins.

How to jazz up French toast? ›

Many people add subtle flavors to their French toast by sprinkling cinnamon or nutmeg into the egg and milk mixture, or by adding a teaspoon or so of vanilla extract—though sticking with just the essentials will still produce delicious results.

How to tell when French toast is done? ›

This allows you to sear the French toast without burning it, while ensuring it's fully cooked in the center. "You know when your French toast is done when the center is set and doesn't have a runny consistency once cut," Oliveira says.

Why does my French toast look like scrambled eggs? ›

What is the trick to French toast? I like to use all egg yolks (as opposed to whites + yolks) for the French toast batter. This makes things just a little bit more decadent, and it will help you avoid any thick, scrambled egg-type bits on your French toast.

How do you keep casserole topping from getting soggy? ›

Nuts. Naturally crunchy and unlikely to get soggy like the other foods on this list, nuts make a delicious choice for casserole topping. Good, neutral options include chopped walnuts or almond slivers. For bolder flavor and color, opt for pistachios, or make it an extra rich dish with a sprinkling of toasted cashews.

Why is my breakfast casserole soggy? ›

According to Allrecipes, the vegetables you selected are the most common culprit for your watery casserole, due to the high percentage of moisture that some of them contain in their raw form which seeps out as they cook down in your dish.

How do you keep a casserole from drying out? ›

Pro Tip: Avoid Dry Casserole.

The best way to prevent it from drying out is to add a little bit of water, around ¼ cup, to the top of it. Allow the water to seep between the food and the sides of the baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil to seal in the moisture.
